  • UNISPACE III Regional Preparatory Conference, Bucharest, January 25-29, 1999 .

    The last of the four Regional Preparatory Conferences organized for the major geographical groups of UN Member States has been held in Bucharest. More than 100 delegates from 21 countries and 8 international organizations took part in the event. It was for the first time after the end of the Cold War that the Eastern European Countries met together officially. Major recomandations emerged from the Conference , directed to the improvment of both space science and space applications by strenghtening the regional co-operation. A major point regarded the necessity of capacity building by means of space technology, including human resources development. The European Space Agency and the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs, together with the Romanian Government, co-sponsored the activity.     • Participation of Romania at the United Nations Conference UNISPACE III, July 19-30, 1999, Vienna, Austria.

      Romania took an active position during the Conference and has been represented by Heads of Government institutions, as the National Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation, the National Agency for Communications and Information Technology , the Romanian Space Agency. Mr. Dumitru Dorin Prunariu has been elected in the Drafting Group of the Conference. Mr. Marius-Ioan Piso gave a technical presentation regarding the strenghtening of regional cooperation by means of space research and education.


    • Romanian Stand at the Space Exibiton, July 18-23, Vienna, Austria, during the United Nations Conference UNISPACE III

      Under the co-ordination of ROSA, several main aspects of space science, industry and market in Romania were promoted in the frame of this unique event.


    • Total Solar Eclipse, August 11, 1999

      The maximum duration of the TSE of the Millennium took place in Romania, near Bucharest. ROSA acted as the Co-ordinator of the National Interministerial Committee ECLIPSE 99 and managed a complex program of scientific experiments and public communication. The web site of ROSA devoted for the event - eclipsa.rosa.ro provided a direct internet transmission of the event, in direct co-operation with the European Space Agency. More than 10.000 electronic visitors accesed the site during the eclipse.


    • Visit of NASA Administrator, Hon. Daniel Saul Goldin, August 11, 1999

      Together with Ms. Goldin and Mr. John Schumacher - the Associate Administrator for International Relations, Hon. Daniel Saul Goldin visited the Headquarters of ROSA and promoted the steps for a next future cooperation between NASA and Romania. More...


    • XV Congress of Association of Space Explorers, October 4-9, 1999

      Twenty-five astronauts and cosmonauts from eleven countries gathered in Bucharest, Romania, October 4-9 for the 15th Annual Planetary Congress of the Association of Space Explorers. Hosted by Romanian cosmonaut Dumitru Prunariu, the theme of the 15th Congress was “Space and Astronomy–Toward the New Millennium”. More...


    • Scientific Session to first celebrate the World Space Week (October, 4-10),  with the opportunity of the  XV Planetary Congress of Association of Space Explorers, organized by ROSA and ASE.

      The session began with a review by Dorin Prunariu of the UN Declaration on Space Week, promulgated at the UNISPACE III conference in Vienna, Austria. Marius-Ioan Piso, executive director of the Romanian Space Agency, followed with a discussion on the history of the Romanian Space Agency and its various partnership with international agencies. Marie-Jose Deutsch of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory gave a detailed presentation of NASA Great Observatories program; Dumitru Hasegan of the Romanian Institute of Space Science provided a glimpse of Romanian space science activities and Magdalena Stavinschi of the Astronomical Institute of the Romanian Academy of Sciences presented the observations of the Institute of the total solar eclipse of August 11.


    • Visit of ESA Director General, Mr. Antonio Rodota, and the signature of the Agreement of Cooperation between the European Space Agency and the Government of Romania, October 12, 1999

      The agreement has been signed on behalf of ESA by Mr. Antonio Rodota and on behalf of the Romanian Government by Mr. Dumitru Dorin Prunariu, in front of Prime Minister of Romania. Mr. Marius-Ioan Piso, the C.E.O. of ROSA, has been appointed as the representative of Romania in the relations with ESA.
