Yuri’s Night 2020

on 12 April 2020

On 12 April 1961, Yuri Gagarin became the first human to fly into space. 20 years later, on 12 April 1981 the first space shuttle was launched. „Yuri’s Night” is a global campaign to mark these events every year — a celebration of human presence into space, in the past, present and future.

This year events around the globe turn virtual in the context of the pandemic. On the night of 11 to 12 April a virtual space party took place online. The event can be watched here.  Several other events are also taking place online. Details about them can be accessed here

The first World Space Party took place on 12 April 2001. From 2001 until 2010, Yuri’s Night was a project of the Space Generation Advisory Council and run under the non-profit Space Generation Foundation in the United States. As of 2010, Yuri’s Night is an independent non-profit organisation in the United States.
