The Council adopted conclusions on the EU's cybersecurity strategy for the digital decade. The strategy is aimed to outline the framework for EU action to protect EU citizens and businesses from cyber threats, promote secure information systems and protect a global, open, free and secure cyberspace.

New EU Cybersecurity Strategy and new rules to make physical and digital critical entities more resilient

On 16 December 2020 the European Commission and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy presented the new EU Cybersecurity Strategy: it will be aimed to bolster Europe's collective resilience against cyber threats and help to ensure that all citizens and businesses can fully benefit from trustworthy and reliable services and digital tools.

Commissiom welcomes political agreement on the Cybersecurity Competence Centre and Network

On 11 December 2020, the European Commission and the other EU institutions reached an agreement on the Cybersecurity Competence Centre and Network: an initiative aimed to improve and strengthen technology and industrial cybersecurity capacities of the EU and to help in creating a safe online environment.

EU finalising plans for pan European cybersecurity centre

The European Union is now in the process to finalise plans for the European Cybersecurity Industrial, Technology and Research Competence Centre, including choosing its location and agreeing how much member states will contribute.

The open discussion points for the EU policymakers mainly regard the role of the member states in terms of payments and voting rights.
